I love animals! As a kid I wanted one of each. Luckily my parents trusted me enough that I grew up with bunnies, frogs, lizards, ferrets, and SALAMANDERS.

My love for these lil guys is unending, so i just HAD to kick off the next collection of patterns with this cutie.

Kai the Salamander can be created with any two medium weight yarns and has endless possibilities for spots.

I’ve created this step by step written pattern- complete with photos, tips, tricks and helpful links. A full 13 page PDF to guide you through the pattern, assembly, spot variations and many photos for each part of the process.

American Terms

Difficulty: Comfortable Beginner

Comfortable with chain bumps, rows and round changes, increasing and decreasing, single crochet, and triple crochet

Yarns I used:
Body: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in “Charcoal Grey” Medium (4) 3.5 oz
Spots: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in “Rust” Medium (4) 3.5 oz

***** A NOTE ON YARNS*****
Almost all of the yarns I use in my stash has been given to me, so they vary widely. However I suggest the same weight, and if possible the same brand if you are buying new skeins, of at least 3.5 oz of each color. This ensures that each piece will match in size and shape as “medium weight” can vary from brand to brand.
Colors needed for pieces: body color and spots/accent color

Recommended Hook size: 3.25 mm (used in pattern) or 3 mm

Supplies:

  • Yarn

  • Yarn Needle

  • Sewing pins

  • Fiber filling

  • Scissors

  • 15 mm safety eyes - you can also use buttons or eyes of choice

  • Crochet hook

  • Scrap yarn or stitch markers

Some pieces are worked in the round and some worked flat. Each piece is noted before you begin.
